Sylvia Cadena

Sylvia Cadena, Colombian, 35. 14 years of experience working on ICTs for development. She worked for the United Nations Volunteers Programme, Colnodo (a non commercial ISP, APC member in Colombia) and the International Research Center for Tropical Agriculture - CIAT (a research center of the CGIAR in Colombia) supporting communities to improve their technical expertise, document their initiatives and use the Internet strategically. She served at the Public Interest registry as a Founding Member of the Advisory Council. She is an active member of ISOC and the APC-Women's Networking Support Program. She received the IDRC/ICA Annual Award for Young Profesionals on ICT for Development in 2003. Since 2005 she has been coordinating WiLAC, a wireless for development initiative, providing tools, information and a collaborative space to articulate efforts and coordinate regional activities. She coordinates TRICALCAR, a capacity building and applied research project for community wireless networks funded by IDRC/ICA. She is available at coordinacion at wilac dot net
