I’m a Development Communications Specialist with MA in Strategic Communication from the, University of Central Lancashire, UK. I also hold a Bsc in Mathematics and Computer and a postgraduate diploma in Information Management amongst other trainings related to Information and Communication Technologies. I have over 12+ years experience with national and international exposure with expertise in information management, the use and application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for development work.
I have been involved in design and implementation of ICTs and communication initiatives both at the grassroots and at higher levels for the last ten years. This covers establishment of Community Information Centres, Information support initiatives for rural communities and pioneered the use of WorldSpace satellite broadcasting to deliver information to rural communities in the east Africa region.
Other initiatives I have been involved in include; coordination of the Kenyan Civil Society Caucus to World Summit on Information Society and participation in preparatory meetings in Geneva, Accra and Tunis. I have been instrumental in design and implementation of many ICT projects among them; The Open Knowledge Network (www.openknowledge.net), an initiative of the G8 Digital Opportunity Taskforce (DOTForce, www.dotforce.org) linking existing grassroots information and knowledge sharing initiatives through shared standards and software tools.
Currently I’m the Regional Director of Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN) (www.alin.or.ke) which is an International NGO involved in information exchange and use of ICTs among rural communities. In addition, I’m also a founding director of ALIN’s technical company, Baobab Communications Limited which is involved in provision of ICT products and services for development.
